Donald Cerrone won’t have to wait long to get in the octagon after his scheduled UFC 205 fight with Kelvin Gastelum was canceled on short notice after Gastelum missed weight.
Cerrone (31-7 MMA, 18-4 UFC) will fight fellow octagon veteran Matt Brown (20-15 MMA, 13-10 UFC) on next month’s UFC 206 card.
UFC officials today announced the bout.
UFC 206 takes place Dec. 10 at Air Canada Centre in Toronto. The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FS1 and UFC Fight Pass, though the bout order hasn’t been finalized.
Cerrone’s fight with Gastelum was scrapped on weigh-in day when Gastelum failed to even step on the scale, reportedly missing the 171-pound welterweight limit by nearly 10 pounds. “Cowboy” said he wanted to fight again immediately, and he got his wish because he got booked again quickly and will attempt to put together his fourth-straight win since moving welterweight in February.
Brown, meanwhile, is in slump of late. He’s lost four of his past five contests, including a pair of stoppage losses to Jake Ellenberger and Demian Maia this year. “The Immortal” was originally scheduled to fight Tarec Saffiedine at UFC 207 on Dec. 30, but was pulled from the bout in favor of the matchup with Cerrone.
